How to measure rooms
Square footage, waste factor, and the doorway trap.
Measure twice
Length × width per rectangle; add closets; subtract nothing for cabinets you’ll pull later if the floor continues underneath.
Waste factor
Typically 7–10% for straight lays; more for diagonals, herringbone, and heavy cut patterns.
Transitions
Doorways and height changes need products ordered with the floor — not as an afterthought on install day.
Stairs are separate
Count risers and treads; stair noses are SKUs, not scraps.
